Tremblay pays homage to his mother who nurtured his imagination and love for theatre and the arts, yet who did not live to witness the world-wide acclaim for her son’s artistic genius.
‘If Only…’ which won a Chalmers Award and a Dora Mavor Moore Award, offers glimpses of the pair at five different stages of their lives together, culminating in his reassurance of his dying mother’s concern for him immediately prior to his spectacular success.
This translation premiered at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh in 2003 with The Guardian calling it “funny, affectionate and very true” and a “mark of [Tremblay’s] genius”.
